I’m always on the lookout for activities to do with Little Miss A on the weekend that is age appropriate, educational, no more than 1 hour long and (relatively) inexpensive; and I’m pleased to say Wigmore Hall’s Chamber Tots programme fits the bill.

TA few weeks ago I took Little Miss A to a “Sing a Story” family concert for children ages 3 plus. Guided by a narrator/storyteller, the children were introduced to the violin, cello, flute, clarinet, bassoon and marimba on a journey on a train into a musical story land where they met characters such as the Three Little Pigs, the Grand Old Duke of York…and the occasional ravenous wolf! There were plenty of opportunities for the children to join in with singing, movement and other activities. Little Miss A was mesmerised, singing along and following the narrator’s actions. The smiles she kept flashing me said it all.

All in all, I thought the Family Concerts was good value for money (£5 for children; £7 for adults) and they even sent a link in advance so you can download an activity pack which introduces the songs that we will hear and the instruments. They even reminded me to bring along a cushion for Little Miss A to sit on so that she has a good view of the stage.  What more can you ask for!
